.PSLAB Beirut the multidisciplinary team of 80 architects, designers and engineers which since 2004 designs and builds site specific light solutions, has completed a new project for a restaurant in Cairo, Egypt.

Considering the nature of the space, .PSLAB Beirut developed a lighting system made of metallic beams carrying horseshoe-like fixtures.
The grid of the substructure is induced by the architectural layout of windows versus walls on the facade. Painted matt black on the outside, the fixtures allow a slit of light out through a cut in the base and the gold leaf inner layer creates a warm light effect.

.PSLAB Beirut ha recentemente realizzato un nuovo progetto per il ristorante Tamarai al Cairo in collaborazione con Shahira H. Fahmi architects.
Anche questo progetto riflette l’approccio custom e specifico al progetto che caratterizza il lavoro di questo gruppo multidisplinare costituito da 80 architetti, designers e tecnici che dal 2004 si occupano con passione di luce.

Considerando la natura dello spazio, .PSLAB Beirut ha sviluppato un sistema costituito da una struttura a travi metalliche che porta grandi corpi illuminanti a forma di ferro di cavallo.
La griglia della struttura portante è stata suggerita dal layout architettonico creato dall’opposizione tra pareti e vetrate nella facciata.
I corpi illuminanti realizzati con finitura nero opaco all’esterno sono caratterizzati da un taglio rettangolare nella parte inferiore e l’interno con finitura in foglia oro crea un evocativo effetto di luce calda che imprezioscisce in modo discreto l’ambiente.

"Le Vie Nere" è una serie di illustrazioni grafiche che hanno per tema gli eventi degli anni pi buii del nostro paese ai tempi della prima repubblica. Gli anni di piombo, gli attentati, le stragi e i fatti della cronaca nera del ventennio 70-80 saranno al centro di questa nuova serie, che presenterà questi luoghi della memoria collettiva rappresentati con il proprio indirizzo civico, come ce lo hanno ricordato per anni i giornali e gli anniversari.

"Le Vie NERE" (the DARK streets) is a new graphic project from the main one ITALIA AMORE MIO, about the darkest period of Italy first republic. The press call them "Years of Lead", a period of political turmoil in the late 1960s to 1980s. this period was characterized by widespread social conflict and acts of terrorism carried out by extra-parliamentary movements. These illustrations are about the places of terror and sufference, like via Caetani and via Fani in Rome, or Seveso and Vermicino, are all in our italian memories.

Federico Mariani nasce venerdì 19 luglio 1974.
Già ai tempi dell’asilo divora albi a fumetti, adore le figure illustrate e comincia a capire che in qualche modo vorrebbe fare quel mestiere lì. Le maestre dicono che non sa disegnare. Dal 1996 lavora nel settore della comunicazione e del web e da più di 25 anni disegna personaggi, fumetti e illustrazioni. Nel 2007 apre anche lo studio creativo “Kokoro & Joujou”, alter-ego per permettere alla creatività di Federico Mariani di esprimersi completamente, non solo nel campo della grafica e della pubblicità, ma soprattutto nell’illustrazione per l’infanzia e nel design di Toys e Gadget. “Kokoro & Joujou” sono anche due personaggi creati per bambini e teenager.

Federico Mariani was born on Friday, July 19 1974.
Already in kindergarten he starts greedily devouring comics, he likes pictures, and he begins to understand that somehow this is the job he would like to do. The teachers say that he cannot draw. He has been working from 1996 in the advertising and web media and has been drawing and creating characters for more than 25 years. In 2007 opens his own creative studio“Kokoro & Joujou”, in order to let his creativity express itself completely, not only in the field of graphics and advertising field, but especially in drawings for children, toys and gadget design.“Kokoro & Joujou” are also two characters, created for kids and teenager.

" What was the idea behind 5PREVIEW?
The idea is really simple: everybody loves t-shirts and they are easier to sell than other clothes. We wanted to create a small collection and, when we had earned a little money from some prints that got a lot of attention on MySpace, we decided to print more and start up the company. That was one year ago and at the time we printed everything by hand with sponges and stencils. We now have a proper production line. I worked for a big Italian brand for several years before 5PREVIEW and I was tired of being creative for other people; I was ready to do something for myself."

al telefono cellulare.
Funch modifica poi le sue foto creando montaggi in cui queste persone appaiono insieme in un solo scatto.
Il risultato è una serie surreale di opere che dimostrano che, nonostante le nostre differenze ci sono molto simili.

in the series, funch plants his camera on the streets of new york, snapping away as people walk by.
he strategically shots people with common traits, be it red clothing, looking upwards or talking on

Il set di scacchi giganti in porcellana sarà situato tra le due fontane e la scala della National Portrait Gallery in Trafalgar Square.
L'installazione simboleggia la battaglia di Trafalgar.
Con 'il torneo', Hayon offre la sua visione personale di questo evento storico e una riflessione sui simboli della cultura britannica: la regina e la monarchia come icone della tradizione inglese e
le torri come una rappresentazione della storia architettonica.

Con 'il torneo' Hayon chiede alla città di 'uscire e giocare'.

I 32 pezzi in porcellana, dipinti a mano, misureranno fino a 180 cm di altezza e saranno posizionati suruote per poter essere facilmente spostati durante il gioco.
I visitatori potranno giocare anche di notte .

as part of the 2009 london design festival (sep 19–27) spanish designer jamie hayon will present
'the tournament'. the giant porcelain chess set will be situated between the two fountains and faces
the staircase of the national portrait gallery in trafalgar square. the installation reflects the battle
of trafalgar between the british royal navy and the combined fleets of the spanish & french navy,
which the british won thanks to the tactics used by lord nelson.

with 'the tournament', hayon offers his personal view of this historic event and a reflection on
symbols of british culture, including the queen and monarchy as icons of english tradition and
the towers as a representation of architectural history. a world of symbols and shapes are
brought to life within ‘the tournament’ where hayon shares his vision and cosmography,
asking the city to ‘come out and play’.

'the 32 hand painted designs demonstrate the finishes, scale and techniques that can be
achieved in porcelain. the figures will be up to 180 cm high and mounted on wheels so they
can be moved around as the game is played. there will also be an area where the figurines
will be displayed and housed overnight. contestants will be able to sit on elevated platforms
overlooking the game and their moves will be relayed by the judge, to the team on the board
who will move the pieces into position.'

'visitors to trafalgar square will be able to experience the work throughout the day, while games
are taking place and once the sun goes down dramatic lighting will illuminate the board giving
the opportunity to view the pieces throughout the evening.'

James Cameron Pop-Up Store in Melbourne by Universal Design Studio.
"
Universal Design Studio have worked with James Cameron to create a pop-up store for the Australian menswear designer located in the heart of the inner-city Gertrude Street precinct.

Inspired by a range of influences including 1960’s French spy films, mid-century office interiors and the photo-realistic work of Thomas Demand, the store explores themes of repetition, pattern and both physical and emotional tension.

At the crux of the store, floating above a black and white chequerboard stone floor, over 400 spearmint coloured document archive boxes line the wall. These are reflected in the flanking mirrored planes to create a seemingly endless gridded backdrop to the store and the collection. Hovering beyond these boxes, a matrix of black tubular extrusions anchors the fitting rooms below and juxtaposes with the adjacent rhythms of the archive boxes and chequerboard flooring.

The colour of the archive boxes is taken as the main hue for the interior of the building, which sits on the corner of Smith Street and Gertrude Street, unifying walls, architraves, cornices and skirtings with a subtlety and depth.

Sitting against this backdrop, formed from a palette limited to matt black tubular steelwork and two-tone composite aluminium panelling, a family of objects has been created to define different areas of the store. These elements comprise fitting room screens, a series of mobile consoles and the central desk. Themes of reflection and distortion are continued with the use of full height mirrors flanking the central desk and leaning against the rear wall to reflect the ceiling cornices and central roses.

Furniture and fittings including BarberOsbergy’s Tab lamp for Flos, Saturn coatstand for Classicon and Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec’s Steelwood chair for Magis complete the setting.

In collaboration with Replay, SHOWstudio has invited photographer and filmmaker Toyin to turn her signature, romantic lens on the Italian denimwear company's Autumn/Winter '08-09 collection. Though shot in Robert Adam's exquisite, 18th century London townhouse at 33 Portland Street, Toyin and stylist Stevie Westgarth gave themselves poetic license to shift the date forward to the 19th century - the wild west to be specific - where winsome girls swooned over bare-chested boys who cracked bullwhips and wore the bowler hats of frontiersmen. But this resultant film short is no Calamity Jane-style caper. The faded elegance of the Georgian backdrop, combined with the contemporary energy of both choreography and Replay's collection, creates a spellbinding visual feast. To an electrifying soundtrack, specially composed by the Doi, sit back and witness the extraordinary models' performances that are this filmmaker's hallmark.

Bjørg was born on a dark winter-night in December 1966. She grew up in the arctic nature where the wild mountains meet the North Ice Ocean. With bright summer nights and winter days with darkness and colors of the Nordic light. She was gifted with an energetic family with open minds, and was the youngest of four children. She was always encouraged to enjoy her creativity and she had an endless line of projects like the rest of her family.
At age seventeen Bjørg moved to Oslo and attended art school for one year. Between the age of eighteen to twenty-one she worked in the fashion industry and traveled the world.
During all this year she loved making clothes. When she turned twenty-two she bought a knitting machine and started making her own line of clothing - and was soon exhibiting in galleries in Norway, Japan and Germany.
Three years later she moved to Copenhagen where she stayed for nine years. During these years she had her own studio/boutique on the North coast of Sjælland. She designed and produced home textiles, children clothing, accessories and jewellery. In 2001 she published the book “Seasons with children”.
In 2001 she moved to India with her family for three years. There she discovered the vibrant colors and mesmerizing beauty of majestic gems and natural stones.
She developed her very own style of jewellery with combinations that had no root in rights and wrongs. A new market emerged for “everyday use” and she managed to create a style that was innovative, raw and elegant at the same time.

Ogilvy & Mather’s Guangzhou office has been selected as one of the recipients of the third annual China's Most Successful Design Award 2008, sponsored by FORTUNE China magazine and China Bridge International.

Designed by M Moser Associates, Ogilvy & Mather’s office is the first interior design project to receive this award. Aiming to offer its current and future staff an environment that inspires creativity Ogilvy & Mather allowed M Moser to go all out with the theme “Carnival of Ideas.”
The height of the space and the central staircase create a background for a theme park of environments that flow freely and openly from one to another.

This is Ogilvy & Mather’s expanded office, relocated from the business hub of Guangzhou to the edgier arts and culture region in the city-fringe, with views across the Pearl River toward the historical Sha Mian district.

Michael Lee, Ogilvy’s Shanghai & Southern China COO, was quoted as saying that although the commute time has doubled for many staffers, they still love coming to work because the new environment is so much fun.
In a media release, M Moser Associates’ director Wendy Leung is quoted as saying that although seeing the workplace as a strategic tool to support business goals is a new concept in China, it is gaining recognition as a serious trend.

the concept for the store was to create "a poetic market place"
reflecting the sensibilities of the aspesi brand

the 700 meter square space contains:
reactive screen based music toys,
an multi lingual animating shop sign,
various screen based graphic animations and live action films.
the shop dreams at night, its dreams take the form of two live action films:
one a single shot of a landscape filmed at one frame a second over 24 hours.
a sea scape shot in slow motion cycles through a 15 colour palette over its 7 minute duration.
animatronic polar bears,
themed collections of toys,
antique display cabinets,
a gio ponti day bed,
a jean prouve sun lounger,
works of art by janis kounellis, a fountain.
a bar and small restaurant will occupy an adjacent courtyard.
comme des garcon sell a range of leather goods, shirts and perfumes within the space.

Ieri sera ho visto questo film prima di addormentarmi....non conosco Miranda July ma questo film mi ha fatto impazzire...spero piaccia anche a voi..

ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW di Miranda July

Caméra d'Or al festival di Cannes, l'opera prima di Miranda July (cognome d'arte estivo ed eccentrico come la sua indossatrice) si presenta come un oggetto non identificato nel panorama cinematografico contemporaneo e fa subito gridare al non senso. Ma è un parere affrettato. Nella vicenda di Christine, giovane artista alla ricerca di un riconoscimento, e delle persone con cui entra in contatto, c'è tutto il senso di un presente in cui i meccanismi della comunicazione sono più che mai "pervertiti", non tanto nei contenuti (il sesso è tutto detto, smitizzato, ridotto a gioco osceno) quanto nei modi.
Christine, icona della solitudine nonostante bellezza e gioventù, s'innamora del commesso di un negozio di scarpe e lo bracca senza posa, avida di un contatto umano che non trova altrove. Intanto, i figli dell'uomo, neo-separato, chattano ogni giorno su un sito erotico e il più piccolo dei due - un bambino di 7 anni - finisce per darsi appuntamento in un parco con una matura gallerista, in una sequenza che lascia senza fiato per il mélange di tenerezza e crudeltà.
Surreale e autoironica (lei stessa è un'artista visiva a caccia di riconoscimenti), con Me and You and Everyone we know, Miranda July porta sullo schermo lo stile minimalista e irriverente che aveva già sperimentato in letteratura nei suoi racconti. Con infinito garbo, ma nessuna inibizione, si lancia nel ritratto colorato e spietato del mondo che le sta attorno, sposando la causa degli outsider per definizione: i timidi, i piccoli, i soli, i matti.
Incoronata dal Sundance Film Festival, porta con sé qualche traccia della poetica visiva di Todd Solondz, ma non è che una debole eco. Il suo senso del ridicolo è femminile e gioioso, e ciò che rende unica la sua voce è la capacità di stupirsi per le cose del mondo, riuscendo a sua volta stupire anche lo spettatore più refrattario.

Aesop opens in the Strand Arcade, Sydney

Aesop’s complete range of skin, hair and body products is now available in the Strand Arcade, Sydney. Our new signature store complements Aesop Paddington, and is Aesop’s fifteenth store in Australia. Aesop’s Strand store is a distinctly contemporary addition to the arcade, a vision of alabaster, cooling green hues and amber glass. Aesop Director Dennis Paphitis has again collaborated with March Studio's Rodney Eggleston to fashion a space that pays heed to its local setting while making bold use of Aesop’s material du jour, porcelain. Dennis Paphitis says, ‘Our Sydney CBD store has been a long time coming, and we are gratified to see it open its doors. Our position in the arcade allows Aesop clients easy access to our products when they call in to visit the cobbler during the day.’ The clean-lined space offers a visual break from the otherwise busy arcade, showcasing Aesop’s preference for spare lines and a clean aesthetic. For the Strand store, both director and designer found inspiration in small round ceramic tiles, and in two significant pieces of furnishing. Rodney Eggleston explains: ‘the tiles, an India Mahdavi stool, and a lamp by Jaime Hayon were our starting points for design. They are all made of porcelain, a precious, timeless material, which also lines all the floors of the Strand Arcade. We wanted the design to be a modern extension of the arcade, and of course, to serve as a platform to display Aesop’s product containers.’ The opening of the Strand store is significant for Aesop, recognising as it does the importance of Sydney on the world stage.

VilaSofa, a furniture store that opened in Amsterdam in October is a clever design feat by Tjep . Judging by the VilaSofa website, it is a brand that can use some visual updating. VilaSofa is positioned somewhere between an IKEA store and a conventional furniture store and its claim to fame is reasonable prices and a guaranteed 48-hour delivery of all displayed models.

The Amsterdam-based Tjep faced the challenge of making all this look cool. It zeroed in on the warehouse concept but with a homey twist. It focused on the aspects of speed and the transitional nature of the place where factory-born furniture lives while waiting to be taken to your home.

Irony - check. Careful, considered design – check. Desirable product with cache – most definitely check. Natalia Brilli has managed to create a signature that is immediately identifiable with her blend of taking the every day and creating a finished product that appears as if dipped into leather. A laptop bag becomes a functional leather laptop case that has the keyboard carved out in the leather, a wallet has the credit cards and coins moulded onto the zip front cover, a pair of sunglasses are embossed into the leather sunglass case. At once quirky and humorous but undeniably cool and chic, the latest Men’s 09 Collection is no exception to this designers range and ability. – Kate Vandermeer
